 Hutto, Texas, is a rapidly growing and family-friendly community located in Williamson County along the SH-130 corridor, approximately 30 minutes northeast of downtown Austin. Once a small agricultural town known for its historic hippo mascot, Hutto has transformed into one of the fastest-growing communities in Central Texas while maintaining its welcoming small-town charm. 
 The Engineering Department ensures the City&#8217;s infrastructure is safe, reliable, and built for the future. The department oversees infrastructure planning, development review, construction inspection, public works coordination, capital improvement implementation, engineering standards, and long-range infrastructure planning. Reporting to an Executive Director, the new City Engineer will:&#xa0; &#8226; Lead and continue developing the City&#8217;s Engineering Department and internal systems&#xa0; &#8226; Manage development reviews and oversee capital improvement projects to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery&#xa0; &#8226; Coordinate infrastructure planning associated with rapid community growth&#xa0; &#8226; Develop measurable processes and KPI tracking aligned with the City&#8217;s Strategic Plan&#xa0; &#8226; Collaborate with developers, City leadership, residents, consultants, and regional partners&#xa0; &#8226; Supervise engineering and construction inspection personnel while fostering a culture of teamwork and accountability&#xa0; &#8226; Provide technical leadership regarding drainage, floodplain management, utilities, transportation, and infrastructure systems&#xa0; &#8226; Support City Council presentations and public communication regarding engineering projects and initiatives 
 Required qualifications for this position include: &#8226; Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited college or university &#8226; Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible engineering experience &#8226; Minimum of three (3) years supervising staff and consultants &#8226; Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas or ability to obtain within six months &#8226; Strong knowledge of municipal engineering, infrastructure systems, drainage, utilities, development review, and capital project management 
 Preferred qualifications include: &#8226; Master&#8217;s degree in Engineering or related field &#8226; Local government or municipal engineering leadership experience &#8226; Experience working in rapidly growing communities &#8226; Experience implementing organizational process improvements and KPI systems &#8226; Active participation in professional engineering organizations and regional committees 
 The salary range for this position is $179,913.38 - $198,590.70, depending on qualifications and experience.

 Responsibilities:

 Technical leadership , including applying sound engineering judgment and a deep understanding of governing codes, design guidelines, and industry practices; collaborating with interdisciplinary project teams across WJE as the structural engineering subject-matter expert (SME); leveraging your expertise for develop practical solutions for a variety of bridge investigation, rehabilitation, and retrofit projects; preparing technically excellent client deliverables; providing high-quality reviews and oversight of work by others; and self-performing and training others in hands-on fieldwork
