The Mayor, City Council and City Manager of Austin are committed to their mission of delivering the highest quality services in the most cost-effective manner. The organization’s vision is to make Austin the most livable city in the country and the City Manager’s resolve is to make it the best-managed city in the country.
The Austin Transportation Department’s Vision Zero team leads the coordination of community efforts to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. We work with other City departments, County and State partners, nonprofits, and community advocates on a regular basis to make progress towards our goal. Our highly motivated and passionate team seeks someone who embraces this ambitious goal and is ready to make a significant contribution to saving lives in the Austin community.
The Vision Zero team has an opening for a Program Manager II. This person will be responsible for developing and leading a broad range of programs within the Vision Zero portfolio to help move our community forward towards safer streets for all roadway users. One example of a program is to continue to implement our High-Injury Roadways initiative, coordinating various engineering teams and other departmental staff to review specific roadway segments with a high concentration of severe crashes. This will include crash analysis, identification of systemic safety countermeasures, managing the program budget to deliver high quality outcomes, and evaluating the impacts of those investments over time. Other potential initiatives this person might work on include leading Vision Zero’s monthly Fatality Review Board meetings, developing proposals for traffic safety grants and implementing funded programs/projects, and leading data evaluation and research on completed projects.
The Austin Strategic Mobility Plan and Strategic Direction 2023 provide the policy guidance and define the performance measures for the City’s Vision Zero efforts. The successful applicant will continuously align priority work tasks to overarching goals and work with the Transportation Officer to identify and address the highest priority needs for the team.
