Collegiate Assistant/Associate Professor or Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice in Engineering Management
Faculty Position in the Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
The Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at Virginia Tech invites applications for a faculty position in Engineering Management. The non-tenure track position will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate and may be appointed as either a Professor of Practice or Collegiate Faculty, effective August 2022. We seek outstanding candidates in any area of engineering management, including but not limited to technology and innovation management, performance management, program and project management, information systems, and financial engineering. This position will serve as the program director for the Master’s of Engineering Administration (MEA) program, which is designed for professionals working full-time while pursuing the MEA part-time, and will be located in the Washington D.C. area.
The ISE Department has 34 tenured/tenure-track faculty, with an additional seven non-tenure-track instructional and research faculty. Four faculty are recent early investigator recipients, and numerous other faculty have received international or national recognition. Academic programs and research in the department encompass Human Factors and Ergonomics, Manufacturing, Management and Systems Engineering, and Operations Research. Candidates will thus have the opportunity to work with a broad range of departmental faculty, as well as with faculty in many other colleges, centers, and institutes at Virginia Tech. The department is home to approximately 620 undergraduate students, 80 master’s students, and 110 doctoral students. The successful candidate is expected to provide program leadership for the professional MEA program, grow the program in enrollments and corporate sponsors, teach in support of this and other ISE graduate programs, and serve the university and the profession. The position requires a Master’s degree for appointment to Professor of Practice and the Ph.D. for appointment to Collegiate Faculty, with the degree in industrial and systems engineering, engineering management, systems engineering, or a closely related field. Experience in industry or government, teaching in academic or corporate environments, and supporting educational or research engineering management programs are preferred. The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check as well as documentation of COVID-19 vaccination or receive approval from the university for a vaccination exemption due to a medical condition or sincerely held religious belief.
