Position is as the department head of the municipal public work’s operations for the village of Garden City. Candidate is expected to be experienced in water, environmental and infrastructure matters pertaining to a municipal government department of this size ($10m operating and approx. $5m capital budgets) and nature. Experience with implementation/interpretation of Department of Health, EPA and DEC regulations and guidelines preferred. Senior level management of approx. 80 union employees from Supervisor to Laborer over five functional groups (engineering, garage, street, sanitation and water) inclusive of capital project definition from inception to completion as well as daily operations. Candidate is expected to be well versed in stringent payroll and expenditure controls, experience with municipal purchasing/bid requirements and capital project management a must. Requires high level of independent judgement and problem solving. Candidate should have strong capability to manage labor costs, improve scheduling of workforce, increase productivity of workforce and assets in order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of taxpayer dollars, and have excellent communication skills and ability to work with other Village departments. Substantial prior experience in a municipal public works department of a similar size strongly preferred. Candidate will be part of the senior management team of the village and have regular interaction with the board of trustees and residents.
Req. Bachelor’s degree (pref. Master’s degree) in related major (i.e. Engineering, Architecture), and minimum 5 years of management experience or 10 plus years’ experience in similar position in private or public entities.

About Inc. Village of Garden City
The Village of Garden City is a NYS municipality located in central Nassau County on Long Island approximately 20 miles east of midtown Manhattan. The Public Works Department manages the infrastructure system of Garden City. It also operates Garden City Water Works, providing clean, safe water to all residents and businesses within the Village. It collects all garbage and rubbish (residential and commercial) and recycling; designs and installs traffic-control systems and maintains the street lighting system.
