This position is responsible for working on contracted research with major pavement research partnerships that MnDOT is leading or participating in. These partnerships include current National Road Research Alliance (NRRA), National Center of Asphalt Technologies (NCAT), Minnesota DOT, and the Minnesota Local Road Research Board (LRRB) and new partnerships in the future. Initial focus of this position will be to support research contracts with NCAT related to asphalt mix and pavement preservation and taking an active role in the leadership and support of these initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Note to applicants:  This announcement is being posted at two (2) different classes:  Engineer Senior and Engineer Graduate 2.  The final job class will be determined based on applicants’ qualifications. 

 

Engineer Senior Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity.

 

Engineer 2 Graduate Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university AND two years post-graduation civil engineering work

AND

  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.

 

Required skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in asphalt and/or concrete pavement materials, along with unbound materials used in pavement design and construction, materials behavior, and field construction material evaluation.
  • Knowledge and application of civil and highway engineering with special reference to instrumentation evaluation, back calculation, forward calculation, analysis, and research concepts.
  • Database understanding and proficiency with Access, Excel, and GIS
  • Knowledge of statistical analytic skills for hypothesis development and validation
  • Knowledge of the implication of the behavior and characteristics of materials in pavement response.
  • Knowledge and experience in pavement instrumentation installation and analysis
