Pediatric Medical Geneticist

The Division of Genetics and Metabolism in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking to add a Pediatric Medical Geneticist to join a busy and productive academic practice. This position is full-time, fixed-term/open rank – commensurate with experience. The ideal candidate will be board certified/board eligible in Pediatrics and Clinical Genetics, and academically oriented with an interest in inborn errors of metabolism. The successful candidate must have excellent clinical and teaching skills and dedicated to pursuing an academic career in Medical Genetics. They will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a part of a team. Responsibilities will include evaluation and management of patients with inborn errors of metabolism, dysmorphology and other genetic disorders in outpatient and inpatient setting. The candidate should have expertise in education of medical students, residents, and fellows. The Pediatric Medical Genetics team, including physicians, counselors and metabolic dieticians, works collaboratively in caring for their patients and families with compassion and evidence-based care. They also work and interact closely with the colleagues from Adult Medical Genetics, Maternal Fetal Medicine and Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetic Laboratories. The North Carolina Children’s Hospital is part of a busy quaternary care medical center. The NC Children’s Hospital is a major referral center for children with complex conditions in the state and region. NC Children’s Hospital has 150 inpatient beds and a comprehensive children’s outpatient center located in the same building, enabling children to see multiple specialists in a single visit. NC Children’s Hospital physicians work hand-in-hand with community hospitals and pediatricians all across the state, providing specialty care to more than 70,000 children from all 100 counties in North Carolina each year. UNC is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) funded institution that offers support for clinical and translational researchers at all levels. This support includes seed funding, regulatory assistance, data management, drug/device development and grant preparation among other things.
