Portland Water District is seeking an Associate Engineer to join our team and be on the leading edge of new development in the greater Portland area. The ideal candidate is energetic, motivated and a team player. The Associate Engineer will work with a diverse group of clientele, including developers, engineers, contractors, and tradespeople, on water and wastewater system development. The position requires both office and field work. As the Associate Engineer, you will review requests for new development and make service determinations based on capacity and hydraulics. A strong understanding of utility plans and specifications will be needed to ensure that infrastructure added to the system meets PWD standards. The Associate Engineer will also work on capital improvement projects to upgrade or replace infrastructure throughout the District’s service area; including water and sewer mains, pumping stations, and treatment facilities. The Associate Engineer will administer the service application process and perform administrative and clerical tasks related to the new development process, and will develop capital upgrade designs and construction contracts. This position offers the opportunity to be involved in all phases of infrastructure development, including site work to investigate existing site conditions and to perform inspections. Excellent communication and organization skills are required for this position. The Associate Engineer will work with local municipalities and internal stakeholders on policy changes affecting new development. Two years’ experience applicable to water/wastewater utility design, including construction and/or consulting preferred. Prefer 2 years in Asset Management, possession of, or ability to obtain within one hear of hire date, registration as an Engineer-Intern in the State of Maine, possess or obtain within 2 years of hire a Maine Class II Water Operator License. |
