The Center for Genetic Medicine is a research center at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, one of the nation's leading academic medical institutions, dedicated to improving our understanding of fundamental genetic mechanisms and the genetic basis of human disease, using data science and its applications to advance biological understanding and medicine.
Our work centers around the integration of diverse types of biomedical research and patient data. Our team of scientists work at intersection of cutting-edge genetics, bioinformatics, statistical approaches and computer science.
We are looking for multiple motivated researchers to join our team to work on NIH-funded research in Cancer genomics. We are working to better understand the genetics and genomics of sex differences in cancer biology, heritable cancer risk, and response to therapeutics. Our work is highly interdisciplinary, spanning statistical genetics, systems biology, genomics, bioinformatics, data integration, software engineering, and data visualization. The project will include analysis of GWAS data, genomics data, experimental data, and has scope to expand as additional relevant data become available. The successful candidate(s) will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on a variety of biological questions ranging from basic human genome science to disease genetics and genomics.
Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience and education. The initial appointment is one year with the possibility of renewal dependent on performance and available funding.
PhD in a quantitative discipline such as Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or Statistics, preferably less than 3 years out from the PhD
Strong first-author publication track-record
Experience analyzing large biological datasets, including principled application of statistical techniques
Expertise in Linux and high performance computing environments
Software development skills, including programming skills in python, expertise with documentation, version control, and code releases
Experience with NGS data analyses
Experience with the standard suite of bioinformatics tools (R, SQL, Git, etc.)
