The Safety Specialist position is responsible for implementing, training and enforcing the company’s safety policies and any other duties as assigned.

Also called a Corrective Action Process. 3.Manage the Near Hit program, corrective action follow-up, communication 4.Safety Committee Chairperson. 5.Compliance program management. Written programs, checklists, requirements. 6.Training – provide foremen with necessary tools to train new hires 7.Training – assess, schedule and execute recurring training requirements. 8.Daily safety talks management (part of training?) 9.Jobsite audits/visits. Employee coaching/mentoring. 10.Fleet safety program oversight/compliance 11.Contractor risk management 12.Safety strategy planning and execution 13.Communication – of safety status, results, execution and initiatives 14.Track and manage the safety and company performance scorecards and data 15.JHA program management, create JHA’s, conduct risk assessments. 16.Update job physical demands analysis & job descriptions. 17.Recognition program management 18.Train foremen to manage/maintain recurring safety requirements (fire extinguisher checks, equipment safety inspections, ladders, fall protection equipment maintenance, first aid kits etc.) 19.IH Survey’s as required (silica, noise, air) 20.Return to work program, light duty work management. 21.Safety data maintenance and trend analysis (claims, injuries, near hits, audits, participation, metrics maintenance) 22.PPE-purchase, inspect and maintain PPE for all crews 23.Complete self-development training as needed (OSHA 30 hour, online training, workshops etc) 24.OSHA Inspection – onsite during OSHA inspection 25.Handles any OSHA citations and negotiations, as needed

Directly interacts with all the crews and maintenance crew. Carries out supervisory responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities include implementing, training and enforcing the company’s safety policies. Also addressing complaints and resolving safety issue problems.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to a variety of conditions at the construction job sites. This position will be in the field for a portion of each day, so the weather could be cold, hot or just beautiful.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This can be either a full-time or part-time position depending on the individual and skills offered. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available on-call early/late hours to deal with delays, bad weather and emergencies at the job site.
The employee may travel extensively when construction sites are not close to the main office; this position is responsible for visiting multiple job sites on a routine basis.
Preferred Education and Experience:
1.Bachelor's degree in safety, business-related studies or equivalent related work experience. (Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) 2.Six years work experience in construction operations and/or safety compliance. 3.Certificate in safety is desired. 4.Knowledge of the construction industry

1.High school diploma with additional schooling (AS or BS degree) on safety related coursework in progress or equivalent experience required. Associates degree preferred, but, not required 2.Six years of experience in utility, excavation, site work civil, etc. or three years of field experience and three years of safety experience recommended 3.Must be knowledgeable in regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ICC, etc.) 4.Required to get certified training and continue renewal of all certifications as needed in all areas of safety and environmental 5.Must have thorough knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and construction safety guidelines; knowledge MSHA is preferred but not required 6.Must have a valid driver’s license 7.Ability to work well under pressure
