Assist with the design, coordination and management of Capital Projects in Connecticut.
Assist with implementation of the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) Capital Program with the CDOT project managers and engineering staff.
Ensure that the appropriate requirements and regulations of Metro-North are met, within the scope of all work performed.
Actively participate in the management and coordination of Capital Projects in Connecticut involving structures, buildings and stations, bridges, tunnels, and tracks.
Provide technical design assistance to senior management both within the department and at CDOT, as well as railroad Operating staff.
Learn and assume the responsibility to provide technical and administrative supervision of consultants and contractors on relevant CDOT Capital Projects.
Review all design plans and specifications and construction work procedures for projects prepared by third party consultants working for CDOT, including those projects submitted by municipalities and Individuals and Corporations (I&C).
Knowledge of pertinent design and construction techniques, procedures and safety standards.
Knowledge of Transportation Operations (and/or other applicable environment) civil/structural construction processes and practices.
Ability to speak effectively in a group setting and make formal presentations.
Ability to develop strong management and coordination skills to assist in planning, coordinating, supervising, and implementing CDOT Capital Projects.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
Personal abilities of a self-starter and persistence.
Ability to motivate others to work together in a coordinated manner.
Attention to detail with adherence to deadlines.
Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects concurrently.
Ability to interact with internal/external customers.
Knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or comparable applications.
Familiarity, or the ability to become familiar with, American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Assn., American Institute of Steel Construction, American Concrete Institute, and other common engineering codes.
Ability to respond to emergencies on a 24 hour/7 day per week basis as needed.
Valid driver’s license.
Knowledge of the Operating Railroad and the Metro-North, CDOT, and MTA Corporate and Organizational structure.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural, or other related Engineering discipline.
Minimum (5) years of experience in design, analysis, and construction of structural areas including stations, buildings, bridges, tunnels and track (or successful completion of MNR Associate Engineer Program).
Minimum of three (3) years of project management experience and managing professional (or successful completion of MNR Associate Engineer Program).
This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing.

Effective September 2017, all full-time non-agreement personnel other than those directly involved with the movement of trains or delivery of service, or assigned to other emergency response teams, are required to serve in the Station Terminal Auxiliary Response (STAR) program requiring Terminal coverage for Grand Central Terminal (GCT) from 4:30 PM-7:30 PM one week per year or responding to Station STAR duty during a service disruption, system-wide at various hours including nights and weekends. This program is designed to improve Metro-North’s ability to provide customer service during emergencies that impact service delivery or other service disruptions that require staff to provide directions and information to MNR customers at GCT or outlying stations. Please note, hours worked during your participation week are subject to change.
