The Detroit, Michigan office of SmithGroup, named one of Southeast Michigan’s Top 100 Workplaces by the Detroit Free Press for 5 consecutive years (2013-2017), is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team. Our practices offer local, national and international projects of all sizes including opportunities with our other offices. Working with us, you will:
Independently provide the full range of electrical engineering services on a small to medium-sized project and lead others in accomplishing project objectives given by a supervisor.
Lead and perform analysis, design and documentation of small to medium building electrical systems including power distribution, lighting design, fire alarm, security, audio/visual and telecommunications systems.
Revise, review, and coordinate construction documents.
Prepare, develop, and edit specifications.
Visit construction sites as required for observation, answer contractor questions, or representing the owner in preparing punch lists.
Prepare CA field observation reports.
Refine and further develop design concepts given by others.
Create and develop planning and design concepts for more complex projects.
Oversee design work of others to ensure an integrated and cohesive design
Supervise the development of materials for client presentations.
Manage the engineering discipline in one or more small to medium-sized projects (including negotiating project scope and fees, job production and quality, fee management, collection, and work plan) in coordination with the project manager.
Manage the engineering discipline in a portion of a large-sized project in coordination with the project manager.
Establish and maintain project staffing requirements consistent with contractual obligations.
Provide oversight and monitoring of the work performed by junior staff. Follow and enforce quality control procedures.
Coordinate with consultants and develop trusted relationships with clients. Mentor and train junior and intermediate level staff.
Review RFP’s and determine submission requirements.
May assist in developing proposal materials and business development activities.
Take an active role in a local professional association.
An ideal candidate has:
5+ years related experience in Architectural Electrical Engineering Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
PE license required.
LEED AP preferred.
Ability to produce and coordinate the electrical engineering portion of construction documents for permitting and bidding and small projects.
Demonstrated history of effectiveness in working in a team setting, communicating with others, customer satisfaction and technical competence.
Proficient in current design software (CAD, Revit, etc.) as well as Microsoft Office.
