East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD) Water Supply Division, part of the Water Operations Department, is seeking highly qualified individuals with strong water supply operations technical skills, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills. The selectee will report to the Manager of Water Supply and will serve as the section supervisor responsible for the Water Supply Engineering function. A working knowledge of water supply operations and related hydrology is essential for the position.
The ideal candidate is well prepared to:
Provide leadership and motivation to a professional staff of engineers and hydrographers.
Manage staff responsible for planning water supply operations, water supply data collection and publishing, and water supply planning activities.
Assign, plan, schedule, train, evaluate and supervise the work of staff engineers, hydrographers, administrative support staff and consultants.
Analyze options and recommend strategies to optimize water supply forecasting and consumption, flood control, energy consumption and marketing, hydrological modeling, and related activities.
Manage the preparation of critical periodic and special reports for regulatory agencies, and a variety of other purposes.
Represent EBMUD as needed and communicate to Mokelumne River stakeholders regarding operations using thorough knowledge of EBMUD’s water rights and other agreements.
Develop and manage systems to enhance water supply service and reduce costs by innovation, improved efficiency and optimal use of technology.
Coordinate section activities with other EBMUD sections and work collaboratively to provide timely and efficient water supply operations consistent with EBMUD goals and objectives; maintain and continuously improve the systems.
Develop creative strategic plans to enhance operations.
Respond to changing demands with flexibility and innovation.
Manage and prioritize multiple competing interests with diplomacy and tact.
Establish and implement performance and quality control standards.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
The salary range is $11,902 per month increasing to $12,497, $13,122, and $13,778 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively.
Any combination of education and experience that has led to the acquisition of the knowledge and abilities indicated above. Typical means of acquiring the essential knowledge and abilities is a combination of training and experience equivalent to:
A bachelor’s degree in a civil OR closely related engineering curriculum which is accredited by ABET or a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certificate; AND
A minimum of two years of engineering experience comparable to or higher than the EBMUD Associate Civil Engineer class (equivalent to six years of professional engineering experience, subsequent to obtaining the engineering degree); AND
Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the state of California.
An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the position. Must be willing to work beyond normal work hours when needed. Must possess a valid California’s driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
