The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) has an opening for a Research Scientist to work in the general area of noise prediction of urban air mobility (UAM) vehicles, commonly referred to as air taxis. The successful candidate will support research leading to the development of a capability for assessing the noise impact of a fleet of UAM vehicles operating in and around vertiports. Research activities include, but are not limited to, development of a noise-power-distance (NPD) database for a set of UAM reference vehicles, assessment of noise impact of a fleet of UAM vehicles using the FAA’s Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT), and optimization of flight operations taking noise into account as a constraint. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team located in the AeroAcoustics Branch at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton Virginia.
