Bloomington, IN, a bustling university city, is poised to implement a multimodal transportation system that balances the needs of 85,000 residents, nearly half of whom are students. The new Transportation and Traffic Engineer has the opportunity to step into the city’s history at an inflection point. The Transportation and Traffic Engineer will play a major role in reshaping that network into a multimodal system with a view toward accessibility, efficiency, health and safety, and ecological conservation, while at the same time streamlining commutes, promoting walkability and bicycle friendliness, enlivening street life, and connecting neighborhoods, parks and commercial areas. As a senior planner and a member of the City’s Plan Commission, the Transportation and Traffic Engineer will exert a significant level of impact on the city’s development in the coming decades.
The successful candidate will have the equivalent of a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, as well as a Professional Engineering License with a minimum of 4 years of work experience practicing as a licensed Engineer. Supervisory experience is preferred. Candidate also should have thorough knowledge of and ability to utilize accepted traffic engineering principles and practices, as well as excellent project management and communication skills. Live among the rolling hills of southern Indiana in a popular university community with an active regional arts, sports, culinary and cultural presence. Salary range is $70,596-$87,280.
