Position Summary: Experienced mechanical engineer for evaluation, design, and construction of various types of HVAC systems under senior engineer’s direction. Engineer must be able to critically evaluate building problems and develop engineering solutions for building owners. Some travel may be required to assist clients in various parts of the United States.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Evaluate HVAC systems in existing buildings and develop plans and specifications for upgrade or replacement of HVAC equipment for bidding by contractors. Develop cost estimates. Provide project construction administration services including submittal reviews, progress meetings, site inspections, and HVAC control reviews.
Assist and advise the facilities department of a federal agency in energy analysis, HVAC operations, and HVAC system upgrades in their existing buildings in the United States.
Evaluate problems of HVAC systems in existing buildings and develop recommendations for the building owners
Assist BDL certified industrial hygienists (CIHs) in evaluating building indoor air quality following ASHRAE and EPA Guidelines.
Assist BDL CIHs in the evaluation of moisture/mold issues in buildings and develop engineering solutions for resolving moisture/mold issues.
Coauthor and assist BDL in writing technical papers for submission to peer reviewed technical society publications.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university engineering program
Minimum 5 years experience in HVAC troubleshooting, design, energy analysis, and project construction administration
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred or ability to obtain P.E. license within one year of employment.
Skills include AUTOCAD, HVAC load calculations, specification writing, and cost estimating.
Candidate should be an effective communicator (both verbal and written)
Must work 3 days per week in Washington, DC with other BDL personnel to assist facilities department of a federal agency and 2 days per week in BDL Maryland office
Candidate should be self-directed.
