ADOT’s TSM&O Division is responsible for operating, maintaining, and optimizing the State’s transportation system in order to enhance the safety and mobility for all roadway users. Within this Division, the Systems Technology Group plans, develops, and implements innovative Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects to enable the state’s transportation system to operate more efficiently and with improved reliability.
The Transportation Engineer Manager will be responsible for supervising staff and managing major projects and initiatives for the deployment of ITS technologies and innovative processes. This position will assist in developing strategic plans and programs for systems technology initiatives for the agency. The successful candidate will be an independent leader that encourages teamwork to effectively manage a variety of projects, involving complex technologies and processes. Provide administration, leadership, coaching and supervision for staff.
Perform design, engineering, and project management for major ITS projects and initiatives, adhering to scope, schedule and budget.
Review and/or develop technical working documents, analyze and make recommendations, present results.
Identify and evaluate new, innovative system technologies that will reduce costs and improve operations to meet the agency goals and objectives
Develop evaluation processes and monitors performance metrics for programs, projects, and technologies.
Perform strategic planning and set direction for the section by establishing goals and priorities for the agency
Act as a technical expert on ITS technologies in public forums to address traffic operational issues
Communicate effectively and build trust with others.
Lead teams utilizing continuous improvement techniques (problem solving, kaizen, visual management, etc.) to accomplish prioritized initiatives.
Oversee projects and project teams to accomplish specific outcomes.
Minimum of five years of experience with primary focus on traffic engineering, ITS, or traffic operations.
Project management experience with ITS projects.
Minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
