NCM Engineering Corporation is currently seeking an experienced project manager who will oversee the delivery of multiple projects and manage and mentor staff. The project manager will be responsible for the direction and outcome of the projects and for leading the relationships with clients and subconsultants.
Responsibilities
As a project manager at NCM, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and subconsultants to deliver projects for clients on schedule and within budget. You will supervise, manage and mentor engineering staff, including entry-level engineers, and be responsible for managing the quality, risks, schedule and financial performance of your projects. Your projects will encompass preparing plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E), preparing engineering reports and providing construction support services for local public agencies’ transportation projects. This position requires a manager with a demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams, build strong working relationships and deliver several projects concurrently through effective organizational skills and time management. More specifically, you will:
Serve as the primary point of contact to clients on several projects;
Supervise and mentor engineering staff with varying levels of experience, including entry-level staff;
Manage your team's workload and balance staff resources effectively among active projects;
Oversee the work and performance of several subconsultants;
Implement quality management procedures and document conformance to them;
Identify, assess, monitor and respond to risks using proven risk management techniques;
Create, update and revise project schedules and coordinate with your clients, staff and subconsultants to stay on schedule;
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients and subconsultants;
Manage several projects concurrently while staying on schedule;
Use effective time management and organizational skills to meet fast-paced deadlines;
Identify and respond to project changes according to sound project management practices;
Review the work of your staff, which will include the preparation of plans, specifications, special provisions and estimates (PS&E), engineering reports and calculations;
Coordinate with clients, agencies and stakeholders, and travel to their offices when necessary;
Conduct field reviews and project site visits as needed; and
Apply sound engineering judgment and relevant standards when guiding your team's technical design work.
You may support projects outside the Counties of San Bernardino and Riverside, but extensive travel beyond these counties is not anticipated for this position on a regular basis.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil, structural or construction engineering
Current PE license to practice professional civil engineering in the state of California
10 to 15 years of experience in the engineering industry
3 to 5 years of experience in a project management role with similar responsibilities
Strong leadership and management skills
Ability to delegate and manage resources and time
Thorough industry knowledge and past experience with transportation projects for local clients
Local experience in transportation projects within the Counties of Riverside and San Bernardino
Proficiency in CADD and the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word and Excel
Familiarity with local agencies' and Caltrans' standards, specifications, policies and procedures
Strong oral communication skills for working effectively with other team members, managers, clients, subconsultants and stakeholders
Strong written communication skills
Ability to handle a workload of multiple concurrent projects, prioritize effectively and meet tight deadlines
Demonstrated ability to succeed in delivering fast-paced, challenging projects
Excellent problem-solving skills
Positive Considerations
Experience with Bentley MicroStation, InRoads or AutoCAD Civil 3D
Proficiency in other Microsoft Office programs including Access, PowerPoint and Project
Strong work ethic and interest in joining a team of engineers who are passionate about their work
Willingness and ability to work overtime with the team on occasion to meet tight deadlines and deliver excellent work
