Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated Plant Reproductive Biologist to join a multi-disciplinary research team in the Global Breeding Technology Solutions organization. Primary responsibilities are:
Design, conduct and analyze experiments to better understand/characterize the physiological and developmental response of crop plants to various treatments aiming to improve plant performance and to drive the discovery, development and deployment of novel technologies
Dissect and manipulate plant reproductive mechanism to enable new breeding method development, such as improving plant crossing success and germline genetic manipulation
Work collaboratively with other scientists on the team and interact with scientists across breeding, biotechnology, Ag Product Innovation and process engineering to develop new concepts
Deploy technology globally
Help secure the company’s IP and FTO in the subject areas.
Required Education and Skills:
PhD with 5+ years or Masters with 10+ years research experience in Plant Developmental Biology, Plant Physiology, Plant Cell Biology, Plant Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Biochemistry or related field of study.
Detail-oriented, having strong analytical and trouble shooting skills and a demonstrated ability to properly interpret research results and quickly set new directions.
Effective communication skills, being able to connect with stakeholders to initiate new projects and with experts to bring innovative solutions.
Result-orientation, having the ability to drive projects from conception to completion.
Demonstrated drive to make an impact in agriculture, demonstrated ability to innovate, collaborate and work effectively in fast-paced team-oriented environment.
Desired Education & Skills:
Experience working in laboratory, GH and field environments.
Research experience in assay development and system improvement related to improve plant performance and understand the biological mechanisms of plant and environment interaction.
Experience working with row crop such as corn and soybean
Experience with patent search and writing patent applications.
Strong publication or patent records in plant development and plant physiology areas
