Seeking a motivated and innovative transportation planner with strong multimodal transportation and land use planning experience. Responsible for all aspects of project management, outreach and presentation, and coordination for complex multimodal transportation projects in a dynamic and growing jurisdiction within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Work assignments are focused on long range transportation planning for corridors, subareas, and sites, providing exposure to a variety of transportation disciplines, including bicycles, pedestrians, public transportation, automobiles, traffic operations, and transportation demand management (TDM), often within the land development process. Conducts and reviews transportation studies and analysis, coordinates collection of, and manages, data and information, and develops mitigation plans. Prepares technical reports, correspondence and other written documents, coordinate with staff, residents, activists, agencies, and elected officials. Supervises professional staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field; plus four years of experience related to transportation planning.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multimodal transportation planning and land use. Strong project management, organizational, technical/analytical, verbal and written communication skills are expected. They should be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction, to organize and coordinate multiple projects and assignments and establish priorities, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials and the general public. A master's degree in transportation planning or a related field, Certification in Planning (AICP) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license are desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is generally sedentary. However, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items over 25 pounds in weight. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
