NCE is seeking a dynamic Staff Scientist who enjoys a mix of office and field work and can apply both analytical and critical thinking to the work environment. Candidate should be a natural problem solver who thrives in a supportive but independent work environment; possess an innate talent to efficiently identify, review and apply large amounts of technical and regulatory material; and, have the ability to communicate (written and verbal) in a team environment which is essential to this position.
The ideal candidate must be one who can read, interpret, and communicate permit requirements and mitigation measures to fellow team members, clients, and agency staff; along with applying field protocols to ensure project compliance. Example projects may include: habitat enhancement, public works, or recreational trail projects. The candidate should have basic ArcGIS mapping and analysis skills, have experience or the ability to quickly learn to use Trimble GPS units, GPS receivers, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Collector in a variety of field environments.
Candidate should be familiar with Special Status Species, environmental regulations and implementing agencies who may have jurisdiction over affected resources and projects.
Candidate should possess a Bachelor of Science in biology natural resource science, water resources, watershed science, hydrology, environmental science/engineering or related field, as well as 2-3 years of experience performing field surveys, site inspections, and/or field mapping. Candidate should be familiar with Special Status Species, environmental regulations and implementing agencies who may have jurisdiction over affected resources and projects.
Candidate must also have the ability to: Review, interpret and support negotiations related to regulatory permits and mitigation requirements and plans; perform field work;, prepare technical reports and permit applications; analyze geospatial data and prepare maps; and, coordinate and communicate with technical, civil design, and regulatory agency staff.
