The department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University seeks applications from candidates for a full-time, academic year Professional Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice (non-tenure track). We seek applicants who can enrich students' experience by contributing proficiency with and understanding of engineering best practices applied in real-world settings. The primary responsibilities will include teaching, directing, and developing undergraduate level courses in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Representative examples include instruction and curriculum development in design methods, surveying, mechanics of materials, statics, application of engineering analysis methods to design, technical communications including technical drawing, ethics, and professionalism. The successful candidate need not have expertise in all of these areas. Courses will be determined based on a combination of identified gaps and opportunities in the program and the successful candidate's expertise. Additionally, the position may require the faculty member to direct, advise, and evaluate groups in designing, testing, and building senior capstone projects. Active participation in undergraduate curriculum development, student recruitment and retention efforts, student organizations, and other service activities as assigned is expected.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Teaching a range of undergraduate level Civil and Environmental Engineering courses,
Student advising, mentoring, and participation in student organizations,
Participation in student recruitment and retention efforts,
Actively participating in assigned committees including curriculum and ABET accreditation assignments, and
Other duties as assigned by the department head.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Earned Master's degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering.
Significant consulting, industrial, government, or research experience in design and analysis of Civil and Environmental Engineering systems.
Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Registration as a Professional Engineer.
Effective teaching or mentoring experience.
To be considered at the Associate Professor level, the following additional qualifications must be met:
An established record of excellence in teaching.
An established record of supervising students and involvement in student organizations.
An established record of university service.
Successful experience in project management.
