GBA is looking for a candidate to lead our Highways Group in Lenexa, Kansas. Our Highways Group works on a wide range of project types including interstate highways, rural highways, streets, traffic during construction, and utility coordination. Our experts work with municipal, county and DOT clients. In addition to traditional design-bid-build projects, our team has experience in design-build projects, both in municipal services and for the DOTs. For this position, we are looking for someone who can lead a production group that plans and designs these types of projects. The candidate will be a licensed professional engineer, preferably in multiple Midwest states to include KS, MO, TX and IA, who has experience as a private consultant serving Departments of Transportation. A successful candidate will have established relationships with clients in the Midwest Region, specifically DOTs in KS, MO, TX or IA. The role will suit a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in business development, project delivery and management of a dynamic team.
Manage a team of 20 or more people.
Use technical and management skills to lead a multidisciplinary team, delivering complex studies & designs for our clients
Provide hands-on expertise when needed during the project
Use project management skills to plan, organize, monitor and direct work activities and budgets
Participate in business development opportunities, including preparation of proposals, participation in client meetings and engagement in marketing activities to grow our client network in Midwest Region.
Establish and maintain client relationships with new and existing clients
Share technical knowledge by mentoring and training professional staff
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Master’s degree or graduate studies preferred
Licensed Professional Engineer, preferably in multiple states such as KS, MO, TX & IA is preferred
10+ years of experience in highway and roadway design
Proven leadership skills with groups of highway designers
Strong working technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices
Experience with project management to include proposal development, negotiating project scopes, cost estimates and schedule development
Experience meeting scope, schedules and budgets on major transportation projects
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization
Effectively communicate project goals, risks and requirements with clients
Participate in and encourage a collaborative approach
